Easy Hairstyles For Busy Students

Students are busy!  You CAN have it all, checking off your to-do list, look stylish, and take great care of your hair. Below are a few styles that busy students can accomplish within just 30 min of prep.

Braid Out

A braid out hairstyle is a popular natural hairstyle that can be achieved by following these steps:

• Start with clean and conditioned hair.  Shampoo and condition your hair using products that work well with your hair type.

• Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair.

• Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair to keep it moisturized. You can also apply a styling product, such as a curling cream or gel, to help define your curls.

• Divide your hair into small sections. The size of the sections will depend on the length and thickness of your hair. Use hair clips to secure the sections that you are not working on.

• Take a small section of hair and apply some styling product to it. Starting at the root, begin to braid the section of hair. You can use a traditional three-strand braid or a two-strand twist. Continue braiding until you reach the end of the hair section.

• Repeat step 4 on the remaining sections of hair until your entire head is braided.

• Once all the sections are braided, cover your hair with a silk scarf or bonnet and allow it to dry completely. You can also sit under a hooded dryer or use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to speed up the drying process.

• Once your hair is completely dry, carefully undo each braid. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to gently separate each section of hair to create volume and definition.

• Finish by fluffing your hair with your fingers to achieve the desired shape and volume.

To maintain your braid out, you can pineapple your hair at night by gathering it into a high, loose ponytail on top of your head and securing it with a silk or satin scrunchie.

Comb Coils

Comb Coils are used to start locs, however, you can have the look without allowing your hair to loc. This can be done with your fingers (finger coils) OR a comb.  This style will unravel as days go on but the more it unravels, the better it looks.  Here are the steps to achieve this hairstyle:

• Start with clean, detangled hair. Shampoo and condition your hair, and use a wide-tooth comb to detangle it.

•  Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair to keep it moisturized.

• Section your hair into small sections. The size of the sections will depend on the thickness of your hair.

• Take a section of hair and apply some styling product to it. You can use a styling cream, gel, or butter.

• Use a small-tooth comb to create a coil in the section of hair. Start at the root and comb the hair in a circular motion until you reach the end of the hair section. The coil should be tight and uniform in size.

• Repeat step 5 on the remaining sections of hair until your entire head is coiled.

• Allow your hair to air dry completely. You can also sit under a hooded dryer or use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to speed up the drying process.

• Once your hair is completely dry, carefully undo each coil. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to gently separate each section of hair to create volume and                definition.

•  Finish by fluffing your hair with your fingers to achieve the desired shape and volume.

To maintain your coil out, you can pineapple your hair at night by gathering it into a high, loose ponytail on top of your head and securing it with a silk or satin scrunchie.

2 Strand Twist

The two-strand twist is a popular natural hairstyle that is easy to achieve with the following steps:

• Start with clean and conditioned hair. Shampoo and condition your hair using products that work well with your hair type. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle             your hair.

• Take a small section of hair and divide it into two equal parts.

• Twist one section of hair over the other, twisting the hair in a clockwise direction.

• Continue twisting the two sections of hair around each other until you reach the end of the hair section.

• Repeat steps 4-6 on the remaining sections of hair until your entire head is twisted.

• Once all the sections are twisted, cover your hair with a silk scarf or bonnet and allow it to dry completely. You can also sit under a hooded dryer or use a blow               dryer on a low heat setting to speed up the drying process.

• Once your hair is completely dry, carefully undo each twist. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to gently separate each section of hair to create volume and             definition.

• Finish by fluffing your hair with your fingers to achieve the desired shape and volume.

To maintain your twist out, you can pineapple your hair at night by gathering it into a high, loose ponytail on top of your head and securing it with a silk or satin scrunchie.
